This position has an hourly range of $35.00 -$55.00. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and achievements.

Position 

There is a high prevalence of depressive symptoms in people receiving dialysis. Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) has the potential to reduce depressive symptoms in people undergoing dialysis. Yet, to provide equitable mental healthcare to this population, we need to understand better for whom it works, why, and in what circumstances. Our realist study, Re: CBT Dialysis, aims to address this knowledge gap in kidney care.

As part of the Re: CBT Dialysis project funded by Alberta Innovates, we are looking for trained allied health professionals (e.g., registered social workers, registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses, and registered psychologists) who will provide CBT via a virtual platform to interested people receiving dialysis. This presents a wonderful opportunity to expand treatment options for people receiving dialysis and improve their experience on dialysis. Additionally, for all allied health professionals providing CBT, it is an opportunity to expand their clinical experience, to learn from a world leading expert and provide a service that is often difficult for dialysis patients to access.

How can you be involved?

We are looking for licensed allied health professionals interested in participating in this project who will provide 10 CBT sessions to a total of 100 interested people receiving dialysis (starting early 2025, until Fall 2025).

These allied health professionals will receive specialized training toward the end of 2024 and engage in ongoing supervision to support them in this role. This is a casual position; your work hours might shift from week to week. The CBT sessions will be scheduled based on the participant's preferred time, as well as the therapist's availability. This position is completely remote.

Duties 

• Receive CBT training (virtual or in-person in Edmonton) from a world-leading clinical expert in this area
• Provide CBT via a virtual platform according to the study manual
• Engage in regular supervision calls with a world-leading clinical expert in this area
• Schedule CBT sessions with assigned participants
• Document contacts with participants and provide CBT sessions
• Take notes and keep the research team informed in case of any issues
• Attend an interview after the CBT interventions are completed

Minimum Qualifications

• Licensed allied health professional such as: Registered Social Workers, Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Psychologists
• Must provide proof of licensure from their provincial regulatory body
• License must be recognized in Canada
• Familiarity with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is required
• Experience serving medically complex patient populations is required

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to coach and take a consultative approach to effectively interact with clients 
• Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work effectively
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Excellent time management and organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to be flexible with regard to work hours: minimum total work hours per therapist = 80 hours over the course of 10-12 months. This includes 16 hours of CBT training; 10 hours of mock CBT sessions; 40 hours of supervision; 1-2 hours of interview at the end of the study, and 10 hours of CBT intervention per study participant.
