In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement, this full-time continuing position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and an annual salary range of $73,882 to $123,130.
Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

Working for Residence Occupancy, Life, Education and Services
Residence Occupancy, Life, Education and Services (ROLES) at the University of Alberta is a leading program in Canada, providing prime accommodations and leading-edge supports for up to 5,300 students across three campuses. The residences and residence programs create student-centred residential environments that foster academic success, build a sense of community responsibility, and teach students to live respectfully among diverse groups. ROLES employs more than 100 full- and part-time staff, and over 200 student staff.
Position Summary
The Manager, Residence Occupancy and Recruitment leads a team of 20 full-time staff that create superior living experiences for resident students at the University of Alberta. The Manager oversees the development, management, implementation and evaluation of recruitment strategies to new and current students, to achieve or exceed occupancy targets.
The Manager oversees resident application, assignment and administrative processes, the direction and management of people-facing services in residence and guest services, and facility services workflow processes.
The Manager works with campus partners in recruitment and marketing in creating thriving residential communities that are attractive to students.
As a senior leader within Residence Occupancy, Life, Education and Services, the Manager collaborates to develop the overall strategic goals and service standards of the unit.
Duties
- Supervises three senior residence professional staff, and through them provides oversight and direction to a team of 20 full-time residence staff.
- Establishes and meets occupancy and revenue targets, develops and manages unit budgets, develops and manages recruitment strategies for student residences.
- Establishes rental rates that ensure financial sustainability in the post-secondary context.
- Establishes and oversees student application and assignment processes, maintains customer service delivery and standards in residences and guest services, and oversees workflow delivery team in student residences.
- Consults with and educates departmental and campus partners about the positioning of Residences within the University admissions and recruitment process.
- Builds and supports partnerships for collaborative recruitment and admissions strategies that support enrolment targets for the University
- Collaborates with campus partners to identify, project and address trends influencing recruitment and residence occupancy.
- Monitors local and national rental market and post-secondary residence market trends.
- Builds and nurtures relationships within Campus Services and across campus to maximize the number of people promoting residence living.
- Champions the positive impact of residence living on student academic and social outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor-level University degree in a related field is required.
- Minimum 5 years experience in a management or leadership role with progressive responsibility for complex portfolios and overall business strategies, procedures and revenue generation is required.
- Proven experience in creating and evaluating evidence-based strategic plans.
- Proven experience in analyzing and redesigning business/workflow processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and support healthy workplace cultures and change.
- Proven experience in service-focused delivery models.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervision within a unionize environment
- Comprehensive knowledge of University administration, policy, procedures and governance.
- Experience/knowledge of with StarRez, PeopleSoft, AiM and/or other enterprise data solutions
