This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).
The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for an Academic Hematologist to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.
The Division of Hematology has admitting and consultation services at the University of Alberta Hospital and consultation services at the Royal Alexandra and Grey Nuns Hospitals. Outpatient clinics are held at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic and lymphoid leukemia and lymphoma clinics at the Cross Cancer Institute. Outpatient systemic chemotherapy is delivered in the Medical Outpatient unit at the University of Alberta Hospital and Medical Day unit at the Cross Cancer Institute. There are 21 Hematologists in the Division of Hematology, with varying interests; including leukemia, myeloproliferative neoplasms, MDS, bleeding disorders, hemoglobinopathies, VTE, PNH, other rare blood disorders and hemochromatosis.
The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Internal Medicine and Hematology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), and will possess at least 6 months of Leukemia Fellowship Training.

Key accountabilities of the Academic Hematologist will include, but will not be limited to attending on the Hematology Ward Service, participation in the Leukemia Service, attendance at and participation in Leukemia Rounds, outpatient Hematology clinical practice, bone marrow procurement and sharing in on-call service for Hematology. The Academic Hematologist will also be expected to deliver both formal and clinical teaching to Hematology Subspecialty, Internal Medicine and Hematopathology residents. The Academic Hematologist will also be expected to participate in either clinical or bench research.
Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the income scale of the six-step Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).
The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment with the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
