In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement, this full-time continuing position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and an annual salary range of $73,882 - $123,130.

Location -This role is in person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus Edmonton.

Working for the Business Continuous Improvements (BCI)

Business Continuous Improvements is responsible for assisting Campus Services with reaching their strategic and operational goals regarding financial, technical, and process improvement needs.

These areas include but are not limited to:

  • Retail Services including the University Bookstore, Parking Services, Glen Sather Sports and Medical Clinic, and Pharmacy
  • Residence, Occupancy, Life, Education and Services
  • Dining, Leasing, Conferencing Services
  • Campus and Community Recreation
  • Transportation Services
  • University of Alberta Botanic Garden

Position Summary 

Reporting to the Director of Business Continuous Improvements (BCI), the Manager, Business Intelligence Solutions is responsible for the delivery of effective and secure operations of enterprise applications, integrations, hardware support, and campus card services to cardholders, University departments/ faculties, external partners (merchants and contracted services) and the University community at large.

The Manager oversees operations and budget at both the central ONEcard Service Centre and the Business Intelligence Management (BIM) team. This includes managing satellite centres across multiple campuses through agreements with partners such as the Students' Union and Augustana Campus. 

The Manager is responsible for leading a team that designs, configures, installs and supports networked devices, hardware used by our partners and enterprise applications for the Campus Services portfolio.

The Manager will be responsible for creating and fostering relationships with our campus partners, including but not limited to: Information Services & Technology (IST), Building Security Systems (BSS), and Engineering & Technical Services.

Duties 

The Business Intelligence Solutions Manager will play a key role in aligning team goals with strategic objectives, fostering innovation, and managing performance to meet organizational goals. This position requires strong leadership, the ability to drive continuous improvement, and a focus on optimizing business processes and resource allocation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Team Leadership:
    • Provides leadership, oversight, and direction for a team of five, consisting of both team leads and individual contributors.
    • Communicate strategic goals clearly, establish performance expectations, and manage staff performance, addressing challenges when necessary.
  • Strategic Planning & Decision-Making:
    • Works with the director to create strategic alignment and provide tangible, operational steps to both the BIM and ONEcard teams.
    • Use data-driven insights to inform decisions, track key analytics, and assess risks and opportunities. Apply continuous improvement methodologies to streamline processes.
  • Resource Management:  Allocate resources effectively, identify operational challenges, and make data-driven recommendations for improvements.
  • Talent Development:  Manage, support, and develop both individual and collective talent, fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. Set clear performance expectations and coach staff for success.
  • Relationship Building:
    • Works with the director to create strategic alignment and provide tangible, operational steps to both the BIM and ONEcard teams.
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with team members, service partners, and other departments. Facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and consensus-building.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Leads the technical aspect of large-scale projects as it pertains to the implementation, enhancement, and upgrades of systems, along with continuous business improvement opportunities.
    • Provide technical leadership, ensuring effective use of technology in service delivery. Represent the technical component in project teams and ensure alignment with best practices.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record in driving business performance and continuous improvement. They will also excel at building relationships, developing talent, and fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration or management or equivalent experience
  • 5 years in a leadership role
  • Proven experience in navigating operations in a higher education/public environment
  • Knowledge and experience of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience of Information Technology Infrastructure Library and Information Technology Service Management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Industry-specific expertise in credential management
  • Knowledge and experience of database systems, retail software systems, access systems and technologies
