Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus and South Campus Edmonton.

Working for the Department of Agricultural, Food & Nutritional Science (AFNS)

The Department of Agricultural, Food & Nutritional Science (AFNS) offers research and teachings related to the fields of Animal Science, Food Science and Bioresource, Human Nutrition and Plant Biosystems. AFNS offers undergraduate Bachelor of Science degrees in Agriculture, Animal Health, Agricultural/Food Business Science and Nutrition & Food Science each with a variety of majors. AFNS students can also pursue a course-based or thesis-based Master of Agriculture, Master of Science or a PhD.

Position Summary

The Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences is looking for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow to work with Dr. Ruurd Zijlstra, Professor in Swine & Carbohydrate Nutrition. Research in the group is focused on starch and fiber nutrition and feedstuff characterization and development.

Duties

  • Responsible for qualitative and statistical analysis of research data and communicating this information to the PI
  • Works with a high degree of independence, and follows research directions developed by the PI
  • Develops and performs animal experiments/analyses, troubleshoots experimental protocols, and adjusts methodology to attain desired results
  • Prepares abstracts, research reports, and presentations under the direction of the PI
  • Presents research results at laboratory meetings, scientific conferences, and other related events
  • Provides guidance, training and oversight of summer students and graduate students
  • Work effectively with other laboratory staff, industry partners, and collaborators

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Animal Nutrition, Animal Science or similar field
  • Experience in animal handling and care
  • Willingness to work with pigs and poultry

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong publication record in a relevant field
  • Ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects/goals
