Location - This role is in person at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden.

Position Summary
Reporting to the designated supervisor, the Infrastructure Technologist 1 will be responsible for providing daily operational functions of the horticulture and infrastructure team.
Please be advised that the Garden is open Thursdays to Mondays for the 2025 season, and staff will be required to work on weekends.
To support successful operations, UABG has implemented blackout and greyout dates for time off. Blackout dates are when no time off can be scheduled (extenuating circumstances exempted based on manager approval) and greyout dates only allow a certain number of staff to book time off (extenuating circumstances exempted based on manager approval). This position is subject to the following blackout and greyout dates for time off:
- Blackouts: May 17 to 31, August 25 to September 1
- Greyout: May 1 to October 31
Onboarding is a mandatory requirement of this position. The successful candidate must attend one UABG orientation session. Sessions are offered on the following dates:
- Sunday April 6, 2025
- Monday April 7, 2025
- Sunday April 27, 2025
- Monday April 28, 2025
Duties
- Cleaning of water features and hardscape features in adherence with cleaning schedules to enhance guest experience
- Routine cleaning and maintenance of garden hardscape elements and infrastructure
- Monitor infrastructure assets and adhere to routine maintenance schedules
- Operation and maintenance of equipment such as gator, auto scrubber, floor polisher etc. in a safe and efficient manner
- Minor building repairs such as painting, patching drywall, weather stripping
- Setup, teardown, and cleaning of event spaces when required
- Other duties as required
- Adhere to U of A, Facility and Operations, and UABG policies and procedures
Qualifications
- Education or experience in, building maintenance, pool maintenance custodial or related fields is an asset
- Able to work outside in all weather conditions performing physical labour
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools such as screwdrivers, utility knives, drills, sanders, etc.
- Physically able to lift 50 lbs, stand and walk for long periods of time, and kneel/bend/twist for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to work weekends
- Able to interact with guests and stakeholders
- Ability to work independently or in a team with minimal supervision
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license is an asset
- First Aid and CPR, confined space, and WHMIS training is an asset
- CSA approved steel-toed footwear is required
