This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

This position offers a comprehensive benefits package and salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with the Academic Teaching Staff Agreement.
Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Working for the Faculty of Arts
The Faculty of Arts is the oldest and most diverse faculty on campus and is one of the largest research and teaching centres in Western Canada. The Department of History, Classics, and Religion has around 350 undergraduate majors and 75 graduate students across its multiple degree programs, and teaches nearly 9000 students per year. The candidate would be joining a lively program in Canadian and Indigenous histories in a department that is committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, indigenization and decolonization.
In 2022, the University’s Indigenous Strategic Plan was implemented, reflecting an important step in our institution’s commitment to reconciliation in post-secondary education and research, addressing the historical legacy of the residential school system and Canada’s colonial history. Position
The Department of History, Classics, and Religion invites applications for a full-time Teaching Professor at the rank of Assistant or Associate Lecturer. We seek a colleague who is able to contribute to teaching at all levels in the fields of Canadian and Indigenous History, as well as to introductory-level world history courses and our undergraduate historiography course. Administrative duties (e.g., area coordination) may also be assigned as needed. This is a full-time, continuing career status position. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2025.
Duties
Teach eight class sections in History per academic year, in person. These will normally include pre- and post-Confederation Canadian and pre- and post-1870 Indigenous history surveys. Courses will usually be taught across Fall and Winter and one of Spring or Summer semesters. There is also the possibility to contribute to the graduate program in History.
Minimum Qualifications
- A PhD in Canadian or Indigenous History or a related field.
- A minimum of three years of post-secondary teaching in Canadian and Indigenous history.
- Active engagement in teaching practice and scholarship in the field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to teach or experience teaching in areas of disability studies, history of medicine, or the history of gender and sexuality.
- Excellence in the design and development of instructional and curriculum materials.
- Record of welcoming a diverse student body into the classroom, and of managing a classroom with students of different backgrounds and proficiency levels.
