Position Summary
This position is part of the Post Doctoral Fellows Association and has an initial appointment of 1 year. Reappointment is possible with strong progress and/or pending an extramural postdoctoral award application.
Reporting to Dr. Carole Estabrooks, Scientific Director, Translating Research in Elder Care, the main focus of the Post-Doctoral Fellow position will be to undertake advanced statistical modeling and analysis of a longitudinal dataset collected over 18 years in the continuing care home sector (LTC homes). The database includes survey data from facilities, care units, and multiple levels of care staff and administrative data from routine assessments of care home residents. Linkages to external data are also desired to answer specific questions of policy relevance.
Specific aims will include: (1) exploring the impact of overlapping socio-demographic characteristics on staff health and well-being, performance measures and resident outcomes (2) conducting a multi-methods study (recently collected qualitative data and multiple years of survey data) addressing one or more performance measures, and (3) using machine learning techniques to identify thus far unidentified patterns in the data.
Duties
The main responsibilities of the Post-Doctoral Fellow are carried out in consultation with the Scientific Director and include:
- Coordinate and execute research project work plans and timelines.
- Develops and carries out independent research.
- Write research grant proposals to secure funding for additional projects under supervision.
- Assist with the ongoing growth and development of the projects.
- Prepare and submit conference abstracts and manuscripts under supervision.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- PhD (obtained in the last 5 years) in a health, social science or related discipline.
- Evidence of strong writing and communication skills.
- A strong peer-reviewed publications record.
- Strong knowledge and experience in advanced statistical methods.
- Working knowledge of health services research.
- Must have an appreciation of health and social care settings and older adults.
- Possesses or is willing to develop depth in areas relating to vulnerable populations, e.g., a migrant workforce, intersectionality, dementia, and care processes.
- Ability to work independently as well as contribute to team development, including during the supervisor's periodic absences from the team.
- An outstanding GPA is considered an asset.
