Working for the Office of Advancement
The Office of Advancement’s ThresholdImpact Venture Mentoring Service (VMS) is a formal mentoring program allowing the University of Alberta to develop, inspire and empower University of Alberta entrepreneurs. It provides University of Alberta students, faculty and alumni with the support needed to grow their ventures, incorporating experienced mentors from the alumni community. The VMS program supports all members of the University of Alberta community, including students, faculty, staff and, primarily, alumni. It is focused on cultivating strong and capable entrepreneurs by coaching and guiding them through their challenges so they can make their own decisions.
Position Summary
Are you passionate about supporting entrepreneurs and building meaningful relationships? As the Program Lead for the Venture Mentoring Service (VMS), you'll be at the heart of a high-profile alumni engagement initiative that empowers local entrepreneurs. You’ll work closely with high-profile alumni, mentors, and entrepreneurs to build lasting connections and provide essential support. If you are a people-person with a passion for entrepreneurship and community-building, this role will give you the opportunity to shape the future of our university’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Duties
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with entrepreneurs, mentors, and key stakeholders.
- Lead entrepreneur recruitment, intake, training, and relationship development.
- Organize and support mentor team activities, including onboarding, orientation, and learning sessions.
- Coordinate logistics for events, including venues, catering, invitations, and post-event surveys.
- Manage program communications, including newsletters, website content, and social media.
- Oversee VMS database, ensuring all records are up to date and accurate.
Minimum Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree in Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, program coordination, or entrepreneurship.
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Canva, Mailchimp, and other web-based tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in sales, recruitment, or event coordination.
- Experience in the field of entrepreneurship, especially with early-stage ventures.
- Knowledge of mentorship principles and best practices.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
