Working for the Faculty of Nursing
Translating Research in Elder Care (TREC) is a research program in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta. Its reach and affiliated researchers are pan-Canadian as well as international. TREC conducts applied research into long-term care using an integrated knowledge translation or partnered model. The program has long-established working relationships with a wide cross-section of stakeholders, end users, policy/decision makers, and a citizen advisory group. We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Research Data Management Assistant to help develop a suite of legacy resources capturing almost two decades of research and trial data, research method development, and intervention toolkits.
Position Summary
TREC holds almost two decades of research, including a significant amount of valuable and unique data. These resources include a major, internationally recognized longitudinal set of survey data along with extensive quantitative and qualitative data from adjunct studies, trials and interventions. Furthermore, the team has developed and tested evidence-based tools and knowledge products to promote sustainable change in the long term care sector. The Research Data Management (RDM) Assistant will help with legacy planning and asset protection for all of TREC's resources. The position holder will apply existing and novel RDM principles and practices, including metadata and meta-narratives, to support high-quality primary and secondary research.
Duties
- Works under supervision to assemble a legacy suite of TREC's data, metadata and meta-narratives
- Identifies and compiles existing TREC policy, procedures and agreements connected to data holdings
- Assists in file/folder renaming and reorganization, including migration of resources between servers and platforms
- Investigates, reviews and recommends research data management (RDM) resources for use by TREC
- Helps prepare reports, operating procedures, publications, posters, presentations and technical briefings
- Arrange meetings, agendas, takes minutes
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, ideally in the health, social or data sciences
- Demonstrated familiarity with research data management and/or library/information science organizational principles
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Extremely detail-oriented and systematic in approach to work
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and bibliographic reference software
- Proactive, creative and able to work both independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree preferred
- Experience in health research, especially that involving long-term care homes, is considered an asset
