This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

This position is part-time and has an initial appointment of 4 months. The salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with the Academic Teaching Staff Agreement.

Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Working for the Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry invites applications for Contract Lecturers for the 2025-26 Academic Year. This posting will be used to potentially hire multiple candidates.

Position

Reporting to the Department Chair, these positions are responsible for teaching the Introductory University Chemistry courses (CHEM 101, 102, 103, 105). Expectations are that the appointees would teach one to three lecture sections per academic term. Teaching would be undertaken primarily during the fall and/or winter terms, with the potential of teaching during the spring term. Duties

  • Working in conjunction with the Introductory Chemistry Course and Laboratory Coordinators to support administration of the Introductory University Chemistry course.
  • Supporting teaching initiatives in the Department by working on curriculum development and the introduction of new instructional technologies and methods of delivery.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidates must have an M.Sc. degree in Chemistry, but preference will be given to those with a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry and an excellent record of teaching, demonstrating an ability to engage students in different classroom settings with varying class sizes.
  • A commitment to professional development and the capability to work collaboratively and positively with the CHEM 10X instructional team are also desirable.
