Position Summary

University of Alberta Protective Services (UAPS), is seeking service-oriented professionals to join our team in the role of Peace Officer. Protective Services provides a safe and secure environment to enhance learning, discovery and citizenship in support of the University of Alberta. 

Duties 

  • Reporting to a Sergeant of the Patrol Services Division, performs proactive foot, vehicle and bike patrols of five campuses including Campus Residences to enhance community safety
  • Responds to incidents of emergency, criminal/provincial/UofA offences, general complaints, calls for service and crime prevention. Examples include medical emergencies, crisis intervention, fire alarms, missing persons, reports of disturbance, intoxicated persons, suspicious persons, trespassing, break and enter, theft, mischief, escorts, emergency notifications, special event security, property control, security surveys, building/room access, etc.
  • Assists community members through various supports such as, education, referrals to social services, mental health supports, community assistance and/or discretionary enforcement in response to criminal activity and disorder

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma by Alberta Education standards (or equivalent)
  • Ability to work a variety of 12-hour shifts including days, overnight, weekends, and statutory holidays
  • Possess a current Standard First Aid Certification and Level C CPR with AED
  • Valid driver’s license (Alberta Class 5 or equivalent, non-GDL)
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Google Applications
  • Must be eligible for a Community Peace Officer I Appointment through Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security. Completion of CPOIP
  • No criminal record or outstanding charges
  • Ability to complete recruit training, all medical and other related testing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma/degree program in Law Enforcement/Security or related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Enforcement/Security work experience or related field
