Position Summary

With direction from the Manager, Undergraduate Programs, the Innovation Centre Coordinator will manage the Student Innovation Centre to ensure we meet the programming and operational objectives set out by the Faculty’s strategic plan and the mission of the Centre.

Duties 

  • Responsible for the day to day operations in the Student Innovation Centre, including management of the physical space, room bookings, technology and equipment, providing tours and ensuring the centre is well maintained.
  • Manage access to the centre and ensure users are compliant and respectful of the space and technology.
  • Serve as a leader in the centre, making connections between students and supporting them where possible.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, creativity and the free flow of ideas amongst users. Encourage collaboration amongst students and ensure the space is a welcoming environment for all visitors, staff or users.
  • Responsible for organizing and facilitating workshops, training opportunities and other engaging programming that support students and their projects. (Source speakers, facilitators and partners to provide diverse programming within the centre.) 
  • Serve as an active member on an Innovation Advisory committee that will guide changes to the centre and ensure it remains relevant and up to date.
  • Promote and support communication needs that impact the Student Innovation centre (manage the discord channel, contribute statistics and user success stories for social media and website communications, collaborate on promotional initiatives, manage the email accounts).
  • Serve as an active member within the innovation ecosystem at the University of Alberta, working collaboratively with campus partners like VPRI, Innovation Fund, DICE and eHUB.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the Student Innovation Centre, representing the faculty during the week of welcome and other outreach opportunities related to innovation. (Orientation, Information booths, fairs etc).
  • Work closely with internal colleagues and partners on activities related to the work-integrated learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • University undergraduate degree (minimum)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Basic knowledge of hardware deployment, software functionality
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral, including the ability to translate complex, technical information into layman's terms)
  • Strong commitment to student service and the value of post-secondary education
  • Strong organization, accuracy, and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of progressive work experience that demonstrates a customer service focus in delivering a product, project or service to the organization
  • Knowledge of the U of A’s policies, procedures, and collective agreements
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite
