Working for the Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Office

The Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Office is responsible for the administration of close to 1000 trainees in over 60 accredited programs within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry in the College of Health Sciences. The PGME team includes 19 administrative positions and 8 directors governed by the Associate and Assistant Deans. Our mission is to support the trainees (residents and fellows), program directors, supervisors, administrators and faculty members involved in postgraduate medical education. 

Position Summary

New to the PGME office, this position is responsible for the day-to-day functions to maintain, support, and administer the various learning technologies, including but not limited to: assessment software, learning management software, performance reporting software, and institutional reporting software. This position will supervise all members of the PGME Learning Sciences Team to ensure reporting, development, and assessment needs of the PGME institution and postgraduate programs are met.

Duties 

  • Supervise and mentor a team of administrative staff; conduct performance evaluations and foster professional development
  • Initiate administrative processes supporting learning technologies requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and act as a resource for postgraduate program administrators, directors, and other partners
  • Collaborate with PGME Leadership to develop change strategies and support accreditation
  • Provide senior professional-level expertise and strategic counsel on technology planning, budgeting, forecasting, modelling, reporting, and analysis
  • Communicate and recommend approval of major PGME learning technology projects
  • Identify opportunities for progression, improvements, expansion, and/or reduction of learning technologies and services/support within PGME to respond to changing needs
  • Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in all facets of leadership and service delivery

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in computer science, business or informatics
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in database management/administration
  • Experience in working with new software and project management planning
  • Knowledgeable and functional in data query languages (SQL) and php is required 
  • Strong organizational, planning, time management, interpersonal, and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive, professional, collaborative working relationships with all clients at all organizational levels
  • Experience with a high level of excellence in information systems skills, including MS Office, Google Workspace, and other web-based programs (such as PeopleSoft, One45, Cascade, etc.) and content/learning management software (CMS/LMS)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Manages time and workload effectively and meets deadlines
  • Ability to provide ongoing training in new technology to others

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience hiring, supervising, mentoring and managing employee performance within a large, complex, unionized environment is an asset
  • Preferably at least 2 years of relevant experience working in an academic environment.
  • Experience at the UofA is considered an asset
  • Knowledge in node.js is an asset
