Position Summary

The Solution for Kids in Pain (SKIP) Clinical Implementation Specialist (CIS) will be a dedicated health care professional who has a passion for improving pediatric pain management and enjoy working with a dynamic multi-disciplinary team who is working to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice. The Solutions for Kids in Pain (SKIP) Clinical Implementation Specialist will be integral to advancing pediatric pain management across the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Western Canada, and beyond by coordinating and collaborating with healthcare professionals, researchers, and other interested parties. The Specialist will lead initiatives aimed at enhancing quality improvement in children’s pain in rural, community, and regional health centers, including championing ChildKind International certification (childkindinternational.org), Commitment to Comfort, a plan to implement the Pediatric Pain Management standard (CAN/HSO 13200:2023), and championing sustainability of ChildKind International certification at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. The ideal candidate will be passionate about improving pediatric healthcare through pain management and committed to fostering collaboration among pediatric hospitals and other healthcare centers. This position will be part of a team committed to advancing pediatric pain management in Western Canada and nationally and dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the lives of children, youth, and their families. Funding has been secured to support this role for a minimum of 3 years with additional funding to be secured following the position’s success in achieving short-, medium-, and long-term deliverables and demonstrating local, regional, and national impact.

The SKIP Clinical Implementation Specialist will directly support the regional SKIP Hub representative in their leadership activities. This position reports to their respective regional hub lead(s) and the Network Directors.  Network activities are guided by the SKIP Logic Model and regularly evaluated using the SKIP Performance and Evaluation Framework.  

Duties 

  • Build and maintain partnerships across healthcare organizations, research teams, and communities in Western Canada and nationally.
  • Coordinate implementation and evaluation of pediatric pain management standards, including quality improvement initiatives.
  • Create and deliver education and training sessions; support knowledge sharing through presentations, websites, and social media.
  • Disseminate research findings to healthcare professionals, patients, and families to enhance pediatric pain practices.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data on program impact and effectiveness in collaboration with research partners.
  • Contribute to local and national collaborative efforts; perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s or other advanced degree in a relevant healthcare field (e.g., Nursing, Psychology, Child Life Specialist, Physiotherapy, Public Health, etc.).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in pediatric healthcare with knowledge of current best practices in pediatric pain management.
  • Strong understanding of related and intersecting fields, including complex health systems change, implementation science, knowledge mobilization/translation, and quality improvement and evaluation, and healthcare system dynamics.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multi-disciplinary teams in collaborative environments.
  • Demonstrated change management and quality improvement experience.
  • Excellent facilitation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse partners.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data collection, evaluation, and impact reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with standards and accreditation processes an asset.
  • French language skills an asset.
