Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Team Lead, Digital Learning Environments - Support & Configuration, the LMS Junior Support Analyst represents Information Services and Technology (1ST) as a skilled professional, delivering excellent client service and troubleshooting technical issues with e-learning technologies across the university campuses. The position provides comprehensive support for research, teaching, and administrative units, including instructors and students. The IST DLE Support & Configuration team is responsible for supporting the Learning Management System (Canvas) and other centrally-supported e­learning technologies at the University of Alberta. The role of Junior Support Analyst requires excellent communication skills and a robust technical background to assist a diverse range of clients across different e-learning applications and platforms.

Duties 

Primary Support & Troubleshooting (50%)

  • Provide Tier 1 email, phone, and videoconferencing support for e-learning tools (Canvas, Zoom, YuJa, Wooclap, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot login/access issues and basic functionality problems in supported platforms.
  • Document support issues, tag tickets with relevant metadata, and escalate complex cases as needed.

Training & Documentation (30%)

  • Create and maintain user support materials, including step-by-step guides, video tutorials, and FAQs.
  • Review and update existing documentation for accuracy and clarity.
  • Assist in the creation of training resources for academic staff and students.

System Administration (10%)

  • Support course creation and system configuration within Canvas and related platforms.
  • Implement in-system messaging and content updates as directed by senior staff.

Other Duties (10%)

  • Deliver technical training and one-on-one support to academic staff.
  • Test new features and tools from developers or platform upgrades.
  • Maintain professional client interactions and adhere to IT security protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

  • IT Technical diploma.
  • Experience working with a broad range of digital learning platforms in a complex, multi-system environment.
  • Experience in adult education, instructional design, enhancement of teaching and learning, and e-learning technologies.
  • Demonstrated familiarity and aptitude for a variety of standard technology tools like MS Office, basic graphic design software, web page design software, Google Workspace etc.
  • Demonstrated analytical and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and workload under time pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent, intuitive and empathetic listening skills.
  • Ability to work well in a virtual team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at the UofA is considered an asset
  • Experience working with the Canvas Learning Management System is an asset.
