This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).
In accordance with the Temporary Librarian, Administrative and Professional Staff Agreement, this position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $67,731 - $112,811. This position has an initial appointment of 18 MONTHS.
Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Position Summary
We are looking for a strategic thinker with a passion for educational excellence and a knack for driving complex initiatives and projects. The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta, a leading institution known for innovative programs and world-class research, is seeking a Program Development Officer to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our undergraduate programs. This is an opportunity to lead critical initiatives, leverage data for impactful decisions, and contribute directly to the success and continuous improvement of the undergraduate engineering programs. Duties
As the Program Development Officer, you will be at the heart of our strategic operations, ensuring our undergraduate programs remain at the forefront of engineering education. Your responsibilities will span critical areas, including:
Strategic Initiatives & Projects
- Lead the transition from in-house software to the University's Simple Syllabus System for Engineering, enhancing efficiency and user experience.
- Collaborate on program renewal efforts by supporting documentation, change management, and comprehensive project planning, ensuring our curriculum remains cutting-edge and industry-relevant.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement operational plans that align with Faculty, College, and University priorities.
Accreditation
- Oversee the accreditation process for all undergraduate engineering programs, ensuring detail-oriented preparation and compliance with the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) criteria.
- Coordinate effectively with Associate Deans, Department Chairs, CEAB, and APEGA to prepare comprehensive reports on curriculum, resources, and student performance, and support continuous improvement of the programs.
Data-Driven Program Enhancement
- Analyze complex issues or data sets into dashboards, charts, and tables including and not limited to student surveys, grades, demographics, enrollment, retention, and student competency indicators (graduate attributes), driving decisions that enhance student outcomes and teaching effectiveness in collaboration with Student Services, Information Technology, and Departmental units.
- Identify and analyze multi-causal relationships
- Weigh alternatives and highlight the best solution
Proposal & Report Development
- Researches, writes, and/or edits proposals, recommendations, reports, and other documents
- Support the development of proposals and reports for leaders in the Faculty
Empowering Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with a dedicated team to coordinate shared goals and optimize workflow.
- Chair the monthly program improvement meeting with team members, Student Services, and Student Engagement, facilitating discussions and driving progress on key initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Requires specific knowledge of the academic environment within the University
- 3-5 years of experience in program and project development
- Proven project/initiative management expertise, ideally within a complex organizational setting
- Highly organized, analytical, and collaborative professional
- Excellent written and verbal communication, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to prepare clear, concise, and tailored-to-audience reports, presentations, proposal, and other written communications
- Independent problem-solving ability and the ability to make decisions that are ethical, professional, and in line with Faculty and University priorities, policies, and procedures
- A deep understanding of or the ability to quickly grasp engineering accreditation requirements
- Proactive approach to identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and operational efficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong leadership and mentorship capabilities, with experience guiding and supporting colleagues
- Exceptional data analysis and visualization skills, including proficiency in statistical methods and tools, proficiency with data visualization methods and tools, and experience with University of Alberta systems (e.g., Peoplesoft, Qualtrics, Tableau)
- Formal education, training, and/or demonstrated experience in equity, diversity, and inclusivity with the ability to apply these principles in practice
