Working for Student Recruitment

Student Recruitment within the Office of the Registrar supports the student recruitment and incoming-student enrolment needs of the University of Alberta. This position will specifically support the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) in the recruitment of graduate students to the university. GPS is home to more than 8,400 graduate students in over 500 graduate programs and 170+ doctoral programs in 300 research areas.

Position

The Graduate Student Recruiter is critical in promoting the University of Alberta’s graduate and professional programs to prospective students across Canada. This position focuses on delivering high-quality, audience-appropriate recruitment activities and strategies to attract and engage future students. The successful candidate will represent the university at recruitment events, provide information and advising services, and build relationships with prospective students, post-secondary institutions, and other stakeholders.

Note: This position requires travel across Canada, including work on evenings and weekends as required.

Duties

  • Disseminate information about the University of Alberta’s graduate and professional programs to prospective students across Canada.
  • Travel extensively in Alberta and Canada to attend postsecondary institutional visits, recruitment fairs, and special events. 
  • Provide presentations, attend booth fairs, and engage in one-on-one interactions with prospective students and key influencers.
  • Engage prospective students in an inclusive, culturally aware, and age-appropriate manner.
  • Provide referrals to prospective students and their families for additional campus support services.
  • Cultivate relationships with students, alumni, and representatives from post-secondary institutions.
  • Maintain strong relationships with post-secondary institutions, career counsellors, and professional associations to expand recruitment opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Student Recruitment colleagues and other university departments to coordinate recruitment efforts.
  • Support the Campus Visit program by delivering presentations, advising prospective students, and assisting with campus tours.
  • Respond to inquiries from prospective students regarding admission requirements, work-integrated learning opportunities, student services, scholarships, and career pathways.
  • Assist applicants with the application process; troubleshoot challenges, and support offer acceptance and enrollment.
  • Research emerging markets, event trends, and engagement opportunities to support the planning and implementation of new recruitment initiatives.
  • Evaluate recruitment events by tracking engagement metrics, lead generation, event attendance, and overall effectiveness.
  • Research and coordinate external event venues for student recruitment purposes.
  • Manage the distribution of recruitment materials and oversee shipping logistics.
  • Assist in developing virtual recruitment tools like virtual booths, tip sheets, and online chat rooms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience working in post-secondary education is an asset.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage with diverse audiences in an inclusive and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Strong organizational and event-planning skills.
  • Proficiency with data management and tracking tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Comfortable with extensive travel, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive U of A fleet vehicles.
  • Experience using virtual recruitment tools and resources is an asset.
