The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta is one of Canada’s leading academic health centres for pediatric specialty and subspecialty education and research. Position Summary

The Division of Neonatology has a strong research program consisting of an established infrastructure and a group of academics and clinician-scientists who are recognized leaders in the fields of basic and clinical research. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Project Coordinator will apply specialized knowledge to provide overall coordination to the PI’s research group within the Division. They will be responsible for coordinating the work activities and overall management of research project initiatives including ethics and other regulatory applications, reviewing, negotiating and monitoring study budgets, conducting study activities specific to research protocols, providing training, guidance and supervision to research colleagues, designing data collection forms and supervising data entry. They will liaise with research partners, industry, regulatory authorities and other sites to coordinate the day-to-day operations of the program, manage the overall milestones, and study targets to ensure completion of the project.

Duties 

  • Coordinate and provide support to sites participating in multi-centre national and international studies, including gathering, organizing and monitoring regulatory documents, ensuring proper training, monitoring data and specimen collection and acting as a primary contact and support for the sites.
  • Organize and schedule local, national and international meetings & training courses, drafts agendas and action items, takes minutes, and prepares correspondence.
  • Prepares research documents and materials including ethics applications, grant proposals, literature reviews, progress and financial reports for funders, data collection tools and study protocols, etc. for local, national and international quality improvement & research projects.
  • Assist with the development of budget proposals and justification documentation for granting agencies, industry sponsors, and investigator-initiated research
  • Assist in management of Principal Investigator accounts to ensure that funding is sufficient to support activities and that funds are not left outstanding at the project end.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a health science related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 1+ years of research-related experience, including knowledge of research design, data collection, data tracking, and data analysis.
  • Experience in research activities related to Canadian Neonatal Network and/or Evidence-based Practice for Improving Quality.
  • Demonstrated experience in literature reviews, scientific data analysis, and research ethics protocols.
  • Familiarity with research ethics and regulatory standards, including ICH-GCP principles, Canada Good Clinical Practice, and Health Canada Division 5 for clinical trials.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong organizational, time-management, and written and verbal communication skills to handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Sound judgement and problem-solving skills in complex situations.
  • Knowledge of molecular genetics and microbiome research (an asset).
  • Proficiency in French (an asset).
