Location - This role is in-person at Northwestern Polytechnic Educational Facility in Grande Prairie, AB. Up to 6 months of training will take place at The University of Alberta North Campus, Edmonton, AB.

Working for the Department of Surgery
The Department of Surgery has 15 divisions and offers programs in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies. The department also includes many other research groups who contribute to cutting edge advancement in areas such as transplantation, joint preservation and regeneration and surgical simulation technology. Founded in 1922, the department has been a leader in its field, striving to achieve a balance between technology and the human element that defines the art of surgery. Position Summary
The Division of Anatomy in the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta invites applications for a Gross Anatomy Laboratory Technician in support of the Northern Alberta Medical Program. This program is an expansion of the University of Alberta Undergraduate Medical Program in partnership with the Northwestern Polytechnic located in Grande Prairie, Alberta, a community located about 500Km NW of Edmonton. This position is responsible for assisting the Program Coordinator of the Anatomical Gifts Program at the University of Alberta in the management and maintenance of the Gross Anatomy Laboratory spaces operated by the Division of Anatomy at the Northwestern Polytechnic in Grande Prairie.
Duties
- Embalming/preservation of donated human tissue.
- Assistance with cadaver transport and disposal of donor remains.
- Interpret and uphold all acts, laws, and legislation pertaining to the acceptance and use of human bodies donated for the use in advanced education related to the Governments of Canada and Alberta, and the University of Alberta.
- Ordering, specimen storage, and appropriate utilization of all supplies, chemicals, and equipment to support the function of the Gross Anatomy Laboratory spaces as directed by the Program Coordinator of the Anatomical Gifts Program.
- Maintain cleanliness and condition of the Gross Anatomy Laboratory.
- Classroom preparation for research, teaching, demonstrations and examinations.
- Provide technical support during laboratory sessions.
- Assist with records maintenance and commemorative recognition.
- Phone coverage for the Anatomical Gifts Program.
- Other assigned duties by the Director of Anatomy or Directors of the Gross Anatomy Laboratory.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school Diploma
- 3 years of related experience in public interaction and human cadavers.
- Demonstrate a professional and respectful attitude in the treatment of donors and their families.
- Understanding of death and the grieving process.
- Dedication to working as part of a dedicated team of staff, students and faculty.
Preferred Qualifications
- Funeral Director/Embalming License an asset
- Additional training in University level technology courses.
