This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).
In accordance with the Temporary Librarian, Administrative and Professional Staff Agreement, this position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $59,822 to $82,266. This position has an initial appointment of one year plus one day from the date of hire.
Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Position
The AI Centre for Decision Analytics (AI4DA) is a dynamic interdisciplinary initiative at the University of Alberta focused on advancing research, innovation, and real-world applications of artificial intelligence in business and public decision-making. AI4DA connects researchers with industry and public-sector partners to foster data-driven innovation through collaborative projects, workshops, and community engagement.
The Research and Academic Coordinator plays a key implementation and support role in advancing the mission of the AI4DA. Reporting directly to the Academic Director, this position is responsible for managing the execution of research initiatives, coordinating educational activities, and supporting collaborative engagement with internal and external stakeholders. The Coordinator operates within an interdisciplinary and high-impact academic environment, contributing to the success of applied AI research, data analytics education, and industry engagement programs. This role does not include strategic direction-setting, which remains the responsibility of the Academic Director, but instead ensures high-quality delivery of projects and academic activities aligned with the Centre's goals.
Duties
- Plan and coordinate interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Track research progress, timelines, milestones, and reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with research ethics, data security, and institutional protocols.
- Contribute technical expertise in AI, analytics, and optimization to support the design and execution of research studies.
- Assist in developing models, algorithms, and data pipelines as needed.
- Contribute to manuscript preparation, technical reports, and grant applications.
- Support the design, revision, and delivery of data analytics and AI-related courses, workshops, and training programs.
- Deliver lectures or facilitate sessions as needed, including in executive education, short courses, or university-level instruction.
- Represent the Centre in academic events and conferences to share insights and promote educational initiatives.
- Coordinate communications, meetings, and collaboration among research teams, affiliated faculty, postdocs, and graduate students.
- Serve as a key contact for day-to-day coordination of research and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Engage with industry and public-sector partners to support research translation and applied projects.
- Represent AI4DA in external meetings, AI-related events, and stakeholder workshops.
- Support the planning and delivery of seminars, panels, and other public-facing events.
- Prepare presentation materials, research summaries, and outreach content to communicate the Centre's work to diverse audiences.
Qualifications
- PhD in Operations Research, Operations Management, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong background in artificial intelligence, data analytics, and optimization.
- Experience with research design, implementation, and coordination in an academic or applied setting.
- Familiarity with tools and platforms such as Python, R, Jupyter, Git, and optimization solvers (e.g., CPLEX, Gurobi, or similar).
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in project documentation and coordination.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills, especially in academic and professional contexts.
- Ability to deliver lectures or contribute to training programs.
- Comfort working independently while collaborating within interdisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with academic-industry partnerships and public-sector engagement is an asset.
