Working for the Health Sciences Education and Research Commons

Health Sciences Education and Research Commons (HSERC) provides both space and services that are used by many faculties in CHS as well as external clients. Simulation-enhanced  education has become a standard in healthcare education in numerous faculties within the CHS. It is a resource-heavy educational technique and requires particular expertise to ensure high quality delivery of over 700 simulations annually.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Team Lead, HSERC and working closely with the Director, Simulation FoMD and  Simulation Design Consultant, the Simulation Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day operational, logistical,  theatrical, and technical support for the CHS simulation program. This support will include design assistance, planning  assistance, ensuring readiness for simulation sessions, room prep and turnover, operating simulation  and AV equipment, equipment upkeep and management of related supplies . Logistical support involves  booking and confirming bookings with clients, moving simulation, AV and clinical equipment around to  meet session needs, coordinating simulation sessions around equipment availability, equipment  inventory and organizing simulation centre supplies. The Simulation Assistant will also coordinate and support  simulation confederates and standardised patients who support individual simulation sessions. The Simulation Assistant will also work with the Administrative Coordintor, HSERC to ensure space and simulation booking requirements are well communicated to the entire team and that the goals of simulation are met.

Duties 

  • Setting up and tearing down simulations.
  • Operating mannequins in support of simulations.
  • Communicating with clients to ensure simulation requirements are clearly understood.
  • Identifying supplies that will need to be ordered and coordinating with HSERC staff to ensure these items are secured.

Qualifications

  • 2 Year Diploma
  • Post-secondary education in health science discipline is preferred
  • Excellent communication (oral & written), interpersonal, organizational and time management  skills
  • Problem solving, customer services skills
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment
  • Excellent working knowledge of Google Suite of applications, MS Office
  • Familiarity with audio-visual equipment and Smart Classrooms
  • Experience in medical education is an asset
  • Experience in a clinical setting is an asset
