This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).
The successful candidate will be offered an appointment, which is in accordance with the Faculty Service Officer Agreement. This position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $100,458 to $140,802.
Location - Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

The Faculty of Education is deeply committed to community, access, and belonging through excellence in teaching, research, service and administration. Given our vision to be a flourishing, diverse and sustainable Faculty of Education that excels, innovates, and transforms society, the Access, Community and Belonging (ACB) Lead Officer will guide the work of the Faculty in this respect. The Faculty Service Officer (FSO) position guides and supports faculty, students, and staff across disciplines to advance equity commitments in their teaching, learning, research, service, and administrative work.
Duties
The ACB Lead Officer provides expert leadership, knowledge, experience, education and coordination in support of faculty and institutional goals, while working within resource parameters to conduct the following activities:
Teaching:
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses with an anti-oppressive focus.
- Working across the Faculty to support incorporating ACB principles into all teaching practices and course designs.
- Mentoring graduate students, particularly those conducting ACB-related research.
- Serving as a member of graduate supervisory committees.
- Engaging in curriculum development and enhancement to ensure inclusivity and representation of diverse perspectives.
- Supporting the Faculty to advance ACB commitments through teaching and learning activities.
- Developing and coordinating ACB professional learning and development opportunities for faculty, staff, and students.
Research:
- Contributing to research in the area of access, community, belonging, and justice, and providing specialist support for research projects.
- Seeking out external funding opportunities to support ACB research initiatives, and managing funding.
- Participating in knowledge mobilization activities, including publishing in professional and peer-reviewed journals and presenting at regional, national and international conferences.
- Collaborating with colleagues within and outside the Faculty on interdisciplinary ACB research projects.
- Translating research findings into actionable recommendations for educational policy and practice.
- Collaborating with Faculty Centres and Institutes to advance ACB through research.
- Analysis of data related to ACB within the Faculty to inform decision-making and policy development.
Administrative:
- Providing strategic leadership in the areas of diversity, inclusion, equity and justice across the Faculty of Education.
- Providing expertise and support to the Faculty of Education to implement both the Faculty and institutional strategic plans and to advance related projects/initiatives including but not limited to policy development, policy review and renewal; teaching and learning enhancement; curriculum integration and innovation.
- Leading the development of ACB communities of practice that include students, staff and faculty at all ranks and stages of career, including those who hold formal leadership roles.
- Working with research centres and institutes within the Faculty to incorporate ACB strategies, principles and commitments into the operational structure and associated projects.
Service:
- Serving on Faculty committees focused on ACB and racial justice and representing the Faculty on College and institutional committees with an ACB focus.
- Engaging with external communities and stakeholders to foster partnerships that advance ACB goals.
- Serving as an expert resource for faculty, staff and students with the provision of specialist support in access, community and belonging and advancing justice for equity denied individuals and groups.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Education, preferably with an equity, diversity, inclusion and/or anti-oppressive, justice focus.
- Minimum of five years post-secondary teaching and/or related or translatable experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and sustained commitment to the principles of equity, and the associated body of scholarly work in the discipline of education.
- Professional experience working with organizations to advance ACB initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake and lead collaborative research projects, including seeking and managing funding.
- Ability to interact in a manner that positively contributes to a collaborative atmosphere, and to participate as a team member in advancing the mission, vision and goals of the Faculty.
