Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Working for the Ukrainian Language Education Centre (ULEC)

The Ukrainian Language Education Centre is the part of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta. The ULEC publishes a wide variety of Ukrainian language educational resource material for primary and secondary school teachers and students. ULEC co-sponsors in services to serve the professional development needs of Ukrainian-language teachers. As well, we house a large collection of resource materials (including a film, video and audio library) for the use of teachers. ULEC is a proud member of the Ukrainian Knowledge Internet Portal Consortium Association (UKiP-CA), developers of oomroom.com, your online center of Ukrainian Language Learning educational resources for students, teachers, and parents.

Position

The position will be responsible for management of the ULEC office and support to the ULEC program such a research and supportive work.

Duties

  • Research and prepare ULEC newsletters (in English and Ukrainian).
  • Interview teachers/professionals and write stories for upcoming newsletters (in English and Ukrainian).
  • Assist in coordinating development of the YOUkrainian app.
  • Assist in interview analysis for research projects.
  • Participate in research projects (ethics, data collection, data analysis, co-authorship).
  • Attend to ULEC library.
  • Manage and complete orders for books from ULEC.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Organize/oversee ULEC archives.
  • Assist in advocating for Ukrainian language education, including through ULEC’s Facebook page and other social media.
  • Respond to correspondence as required.
  • Assist in conducting literature reviews.
  • Assist in organizing professional development activities for teachers.

Qualifications

  • Relevant Bachelor degree; equivalent combinations may be considered.
  • Must have basic proficiency in the Ukrainian language.
  • 3 years of administrative support experience.
  • Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
  • Ability to interact with multiple stakeholders and prioritize urgent activities accordingly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative and dynamic team.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be proficient in software applications such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office/Word, PowerPoint, Excel Spreadsheets, Zoom, Google Meets, and virtual applications, etc.
  • Knowledge of HCM or other internal UofA softwares or platforms is an asset.

This position requires that the incumbent be eligible to participate in government-funded research projects, including active ability to receive federal research funds on behalf of the university. Individuals having an active affiliation with a Named Research Organization are ineligible to participate in government-funded research projects in Sensitive Technology Research Areas in Canada.
