The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta with over 250 academic faculty members and over 400 trainees (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and residents).The Department of Medicine's core mission is to undertake outstanding education, research and high-quality clinical care to provide the best possible health outcomes for Albertans. Position Summary

This is a new position at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital (GRH), supported by the Glenrose Hospital Foundation. Nestled within the largest tertiary rehabilitation hospital in Canada, the GRH Research and Innovation Department is uniquely positioned to lead and facilitate pivotal research in the field of rehabilitation. Within the R&I Department, the clinical translational research platform focuses on four key priority research areas: i) Neurorehabilitation and Recovery, ii) Assistive & Adaptive Technology, iii) Cognitive & Developmental Neuroscience and iv) Precision Rehabilitation. This position has a strong initial area of focus related to neurorehabilitation and recovery through Neuromodulation in Rehabilitation. The candidates will work under the direct supervision of the Scientific Program Lead to bring the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital to the forefront of using neuromodulation to enhance or suppress activity of the nervous system for the treatment of disease and improve people’s lives. The candidates may also support broader priority initiatives across the hospital as identified by the Scientific Program Lead and aligned with the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital R&I strategic plan and the mission of the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and Glenrose Hospital Foundation.

Duties 

  • Leads all aspects of research trials, including operational planning, subject recruitment, and data collection.
  • Ensures regulatory and ethical compliance for all studies, adhering to HREB, Health Canada, and institutional guidelines.
  • Manages lab operations, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), equipment/supply ordering, and invoicing.
  • Performs data management, analysis, and trains staff on related processes.
  • Contributes to and provides support for grant applications, publications, and presentations.
  • Coordinates and trains research personnel, ensuring team members are compliant with all procedures.
  • Identifies problems and reports any abnormalities to the Scientific Program Lead.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have completed or be close to completion of a graduate level degree in a related health or science field.
  • Experience with patient interaction and administration of questionnaires, dealing with patients, responding to study-related questions
  • Experience in data management and handling of large databases.
  • Experience in collecting human neurophysiological data and data analysis
  • Proficient technical and computer skills including bibliographic management software (e.g. EndNote), RedCap and Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, time management and communication (written and verbal) skills in English.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks, timelines and a flexible work schedule.
  • Experience with regulatory processes
  • Ability to work efficiently and in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others on a team.
  • A minimum of two years of research experience preferred.
