Location -  This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton and Enterprise Square, Edmonton.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Applications, the Senior Enterprise Systems Manager, PeopleSoft, is a critical leadership role responsible for the strategic oversight, operational management, and continuous improvement of the University of Alberta's Oracle Cloud applications and highly customized PeopleSoft 9.2 application suite, encompassing Financials, Human Capital Management (HCM), and Campus Solutions applications. This position manages key functional and technical teams, including external managed services providers.

The incumbent exercises a high degree of autonomy while navigating a complex, decentralized stakeholder environment, ensuring PeopleSoft and Oracle Cloud systems are secure, performant, compliant, and aligned with the University's strategic objectives and the diverse needs of service units including but not limited to Financial Accounting, Procurement & Contract Management, Shared Services, Human Resources, Office of the Registrar, Research Administrative Services and other business support administrative service units.

The Senior Enterprise Systems Manager, PeopleSoft, plays a key role in shaping the University's long-term enterprise applications strategy by assessing existing functionality in PeopleSoft, how emerging technologies may be used in combination with PeopleSoft, aligning system roadmaps with institutional priorities, and driving innovation in administrative processes to enable operational excellence.

Duties 

  • Provides strategic direction for the evolution and optimization of the University's University's Oracle Cloud and PeopleSoft application suite, aligning with institutional goals and industry best practices.
  • Oversees the functional integrity, performance, and reliability of Oracle Cloud and PeopleSoft applications and implemented modules.
  • Manages the Oracle Cloud PeopleSoft application roadmap, including planning for upgrades (e.g., PUM updates, PeopleTools upgrades), new feature adoption, and deprecation of customizations where feasible.
  • Serves as a primary liaison and trusted advisor between IST and key constituents across the decentralized university environment.
  • Facilitates liaison with business and functional teams, partnering on requirements gathering, prioritization of continuous improvements and enhancements, and manages expectations across the campus community. Able to develop and foster strong business relationships with clients as business processes and application functionality is discussed, documented, and articulated.
  • Oversees all technical aspects of the Oracle Cloud and PeopleSoft environments, including architecture, infrastructure, environment management (development, test, UAT, production, help), and deployment processes. Works closely with managed service providers to ensure that the technical environments meet the needs of the University of Alberta.
  • Ensures robust Oracle Cloud and PeopleSoft application security oversight, including defining and managing roles, permissions, data privacy, and compliance with university security policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborates with managed service provider teams to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and disaster recovery capabilities for Oracle Cloud and PeopleSoft applications.
  • Oversees all aspects of the work performed by direct reports and their respective teams, including performance management, professional development, workload planning, and resource allocation.
  • Fosters a collaborative, high-performing, and inclusive team environment, promoting continuous learning and adherence to best practices in Oracle Cloud and PeopleSoft application management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in PeopleSoft application management, with a strong blend of functional and technical expertise in or across Financials, HCM, and Campus Solutions applications.
  • Proven experience managing PeopleSoft 9.2 environments, including upgrade cycles (PUM and PeopleTools), patching, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role, managing technical and/or functional teams.
  • Experience with vendor management and contract negotiation for software and IT services, particularly for managed application and infrastructure services.
  • Experience working in a large, complex, and decentralized organizational environment, preferably within a post-secondary institution or public sector.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., PMP, ITIL) is preferred
