Position
The Employer and Community Partner Outreach Specialist (ECPS) will build and maintain relationships with industry, government and not-for-profit organizations with an emphasis on recruiters, in order to develop career, work integrated learning (WIL), and experiential learning (EL) opportunities for a diverse population of undergraduate and Masters students in the Alberta School of Business.
Reporting to the Manager, Careers and Work Integrated Learning (CWIL), this position works closely with the broader CWIL team. The ECPS is often an employer's first point of contact with the CWIL office, and as such will advise employers on subjects including student capabilities, opportunities to engage with students, and recruitment strategies. The ECPS will use knowledge of CWIL programs and services to refer employers and other stakeholders to the appropriate CWIL resource, or when applicable to the U of A Career Centre, other WIL or EL offices at the University of Alberta. The ECPS will conduct outreach to employers and other community stakeholders in support of CWIL services and programs. In addition, the ECPS is responsible for coordinating events that facilitate networking between employers and students and may provide support for other events being coordinated by CWIL staff or other career service providers at the University of Alberta.
Duties
- Develop and maintain a corporate and business network by actively pursuing relationships with employers and industry associations (such as CPHR and CPA Alberta) to support the expansion of WIL, EL and other employment opportunities for Business students.
- Act as the first point of contact for employer inquiries and provide information about opportunities to engage with and support Business students and/or CWIL services and programs.
- Collaborate with Advancement, the Career Centre or other WIL/EL offices at the University of Alberta to coordinate outreach efforts and develop mutually beneficial relationships with employers and other external stakeholders.
- Provide advice to employers on recruitment strategies and best practices for engaging with Business students (Undergraduate and Masters).
- Identify additional opportunities for engagement with organizations that currently recruit Business students and collaborate with other CWIL staff on initiatives to increase engagement with employers.
- Represent the CWIL office and School of Business at trade fairs, conferences, industry mixers, and/or other relevant events to increase awareness of and promote CWIL programs and services to employers and community stakeholders.
- Ensure the CWIL employer database is current and update contact information as needed.
- Act as first point of contact regarding employer wage subsidy programs (e.g. Mitacs) and provide relevant information to employers about funding opportunities when appropriate. Ensure clear and streamlined processes for managing CWIL office role in granting and wage subsidy programs.
- Act as backup for posting jobs and other outreach opportunities.
- Meet with CWIL staff to determine employer and community outreach needs to meet organizational objectives.
- Work with employers to create Co-op, internship, summer and permanent job opportunities for Undergraduate and Master students.
- Identify underrepresented industries, sectors and geographic locations in WIL and employment opportunities and develop strategies to increase the diversity of job postings for students.
- Identify external partners for career education and experiential learning opportunities for students, such as career cafes, information sessions, and Career Treks.
- Review and advise on content for CWIL website that is targeted to current and potential employers.
- Develop marketing materials that promote CWIL services and programs to employers.
- Conduct employer and labor market research to identify trends and opportunities to engage with employers and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate on events that facilitate networking between employers and students, including Career Cafes and Career Treks.
- Collaborate with CWIL staff or other Careers offices at the University of Alberta to organize or support Career Fairs and other Career, WIL, or EL related events.
- Conducts environmental scans to ensure relevant job postings are included in Orbis (job posting system).
- Assist with data collection, data analysis, and preparing reports as needed.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate Degree required. Bachelor of Commerce degree preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of related work experience that demonstrates experience in recruiting, marketing or business development preferred.
- Familiarity with the post-secondary environment and preferably the University of Alberta.
- Knowledge of Business and its various specializations, particularly within the context of careers and employment, is an asset.
- Highly professional with strong networking and relationship management skills.
- Strong customer service skills and experience balance the competing needs of diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal, including presentation skills) with an understanding of equity, diversity and inclusiveness philosophy.
- High degree of attention to detail and ability to multitask and prioritize work in a deadline driven environment.
- Comfortable with ambiguity, changing plans and managing the interests of a variety of different stakeholders to achieve short and long term goals.
- Ability to manage and resolve conflict, using sound judgment to know when to involve others.
- Expertise with MS Office, Google Suite applications.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required.
- Some travel (within Canada) may be required.
