My main research areas include economic evaluation of health care programs, health related quality of life measurement, health technology assessment, distribution of health and health care costs in the population, economic assessment of health promotion programs, mental health and vaccination and connection with health economic studies and policy decisions.
My special research interest has been assessment of the telemedicine and telehealth applications. My research often has a close link to decision making in government and health care organizations.

SPH 550 - Introduction to Health Care Finance
Financial structure of the health care system, Introduction to managerial accounting with special emphasis on the management of health care agencies. Principles of costing. Multiproduct and case mix measures. Resource use decisions, budgeting and control, and pricing analysis for health care organizations. Note: Credit may not be obtained for both PHS 550 and SPH 550.
SPH 570 - Introduction to Health Economics
A required course for the Graduate Embedded Certificate in Health Economic Evaluation, this 3-credit course provides an introduction to health economic theory and its application to health-related topics. The areas covered include: (1) demand, supply, and utilization; (2) health production and cost of services; (3) societal resource allocation and policy decisions; (4) health insurance systems and selected facets of health planning; (5) determinants of health and equity; (6) health economic evaluation. No prior economics courses or experience required. Note: Credit may not be obtained for both PHS 570 and SPH 570.
Scholarly Activities
Research - Assessment and valuation of Health-Related Quality of Life and PROMS
I am Co-Director of the Alberta PROMS and EQ-5D Research and Support Unit (APERSU) and a member of the EuroQol Group and through these organizations I do several research projects using EQ-5D and other Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS). I am also an Associate Editor of the Quality of Life Research journal.
APERSUResearch - Cost-effectiveness of the school-based overweight prevention program
In this study our group is assessing different school-based overweight and obesity prevention strategies and developing economic models to assess their cost-effectiveness. These models are intended to inform decision and policy makers to select health promotion programs for children to improve their health status and prevent overweight and obesity.

I am leading economic evaluations in several different kind of programs both in health care and public health setting.
Research - Tele mental health of children and adolescents
I am leading the economic evaluation of several tele mental health projects that are directed for children and adolescents.
