About
Rafael is a Brazilian educator and researcher with more than twenty-five years of experience in mathematics education and pedagogical leadership across Brazil and Canada. Having worked as a math teacher, school coordinator, textbook reviewer, clown-teacher, and founder and president of a not-for-profit preparatory program for low-income students in Brazil, Rafael currently lives in Edmonton, AB, and serves as a principal instructor with the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP) at the University of Alberta. His doctoral research-creation builds on his previous studies on story-listening, which explored Critical, Indigenous, and Clown (CIC) pedagogies and their educational constraints and affordances, to investigate the potential of story-listening as a culturally relational approach to mathematics teaching.
