About
Nagehan Yanar is PhD student in English at the University of Alberta. Prior to coming to Alberta, she was a Visiting Scholar at the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities at Bard College. She will be a Graduate Visiting Student in English at Columbia University, starting Summer 2024.
Her fields of interest are situated at the intersection of 19th- and 20th-century American and European literature and culture, political theory, and 20th-century Continental theory. By bringing together the reflections of Arendt and Woolf on the role of narrative in public realm, she has recently published an essay titled "A Dialogue on Narrative: Arendt and Woolf" in The Amor Mundi of the Hannah Arendt Center. She is the translator of Frederick C. Beiser's Weltschmerz: Pessimism in German Philosophy 1860-1900 into Turkish.
She received an MA with High Honors in English Language and Literature from Yeditepe University, where she was awarded the full scholarship. As a High Honor Student and First of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, she holds a BA in English Language and Literature from Kocaeli University. She also studied modern literature and philosophy at King’s College London and Bogazici University as a Visiting Student.
