This course is designed as a non-technical introduction in which the fundamental concepts of biochemistry are examined in the context of human life, health, and disease. Topics include the molecular basis of gene function, protein activity, cell structure and signaling, and metabolic processes. Emphasis is placed on real-world implications, modern biomedical technologies, common misconceptions, and the relationship between normal molecular function and disease. Prerequisites: None. Chemistry 30 and Biology 30 (or equivalent) recommended. Note: This course does not qualify as a prerequisite for courses requiring BIOCH 200.
