Point defects, nonstoichiometry, defect reactions, dislocations. Diffusion, electrochemical transport, examples. Thermal and mechanical properties, thermal shock resistance, electrical conduction. Applications: solid electrolytes, energy conversion systems, refractories, electronics. Prerequisites: Consent of Instructor. Credit cannot be obtained in this course if credit has already been obtained in MAT E 471.
