Through lectures, assigned readings, and short written assignments, students will investigate technical aspects relevant to writing about music. Uses of grammar, rhetoric, and the graphic design of musical illustrations will be addressed in order to develop facility, as well as a clear and personal style of paper writing. The course will be team taught to cover conventional modes of written expression in music history, theory, and ethnomusicology. Prerequisite: MUSIC 505.
