Role of ecological processes in determining sustainability and the development and adoption of practices that facilitate long-term viability of both agriculture and biophysical resources. The concept of the agroecosystem and application of ecological principles to agricultural land management. Use of environmental indicators to measure and predict longterm sustainability of agricultural land management. Not to be taken if credit received for REN R 450 or REN R 752.

Implementation of sustainable development goals and pillars of sustainability as frameworks for evaluating cases of study around the globe when focusing on multifunctional land ecosystems. Design and modelling of whole farming systems while identifying externalities, developmental phases, and ecological valence. Analyses of underlying ecological processes and adoption of sustainable management. Long-term evolution of environmental problems and opportunities associated with agricultural landscapes and the biosphere. Conceptualization of sustainability.
