This course takes a multidisciplinary approach that applies to all natural and social sciences. It systematically covers the four broad phases of the scientific process: planning and preparation (including research design, research ethics, literature review, and proposal writing), data collection (important principles), data analysis and interpretation (including selection of appropriate statistical analysis), and scientific writing and presentation (preparing written research reports, oral presentations, and posters). As part of this course, students conduct mini-research projects to gain practical, hands-on experience in working through all four phases of the scientific process. Prerequisite: One of STAT 141, 151, 161, 235 or SCI 151.
