MA PH 364 - Group Theory in Physics

Symmetries in physics; basic concepts of group theory and representation theory; finite groups; continuous groups; orthogonal and unitary groups; Lie groups; spinor representations; Lorentz and Poincare groups. Prerequisite: MATH 225 or MATH 227. Note: Credit can be obtained in at most one of MA PH 364 and MA PH 464.

MATH 311 - Theory of Functions of a Complex Variable

3 units (fi 6)(EITHER, 3-0-0)

Complex numbers. Complex series. Functions of a complex variable. Cauchy's theorem and contour integration. Residue Theorem and its applications. Corequisite: MATH 215 or MATH 315 or MATH 317 or MA PH 351. Note: This course may not be taken for credit if credit has already been obtained in MATH 309 or 411.
