DES 135 - Design Fundamentals

Studio-based introduction to the conceptual and practical concerns of the design disciplines. Two- and three-dimensional design-related studies. Note: ART 134 and DES 135 are required prerequisites for senior level ART or DES courses. Not open to students with credit in ART 131 or ART 132.

DES 393 - Visual Communication Design Foundations I

3 units (fi 6)(FIRST, 0-6L-0)

Understanding and applying the principles of visual communication design. Study of communication concerns through the use of type and image creation. Emphasis on appropriateness, clarity, expression and description to meet defined objectives in print and digital media. Introduction to design research methods. Prerequisites: ART 134 and DES 135, or ART 136 and DES 138, or consent of the Department. Note: Not open to students with credit in DES 390.

DES 394 - Visual Communication Design Foundations II

3 units (fi 6)(SECOND, 0-6L-0)

Continued study of the principles of visual communication design. Introduction to visual principles for web and motion design. Emphasis on appropriateness, clarity, expression and description to meet defined objectives in print and digital media. Integration of social design themes. Continued introduction to design research methods. Prerequisites: DES 393, or consent of the Department. Note: Not open to students with credit in DES 390.
