As well as giving a broad sweep of the development of Canadian literature from colonial times to the middle of the twentieth century, the course focuses on three movements: the Confederation poets such as Roberts, Carman, Lampman, and D.C. Scott; the emergence of fictional realism in the works of Grove, Callaghan, MacLennan, and Wilson; and the revolt of the poets of the 1920s, F. R. Scott, Smith, Pratt, Klein, and Livesay.
