Introduction to different syntactic theories, such as Generative Grammar and Construction Grammar, with an eye to understanding the strengths and limitations of different approaches. The focus will be on recognizing and analyzing syntactic structures, understanding the type of argumentation used in different theories, and applying this to the student's own research. Prerequisite: LING 309 or consent of Department. Note: Open to senior undergraduates in Linguistics.
