The multimedia pipeline includes data acquisition, processing, transmission and visualization, as well as quality assessment. Over the years, state-of-the-art techniques have been developed in these areas. Nevertheless, emerging technologies in hardware, systems and tools necessitate continuous evolution of multimedia algorithms and inventions. Driven by industrial demands and consumer preferences, recent advances, e.g. Internet-of-Things, Cloud Computing, High Dynamic Display, visual recognition, multimedia mining and so on, have brought revolution in multimedia research and development. This course intends to introduce some latest hot topics in multimedia so that students understand industrial requirements and applications, and prepare for their careers.
