KIN 493B - Professional Practicum

7.5 units (fi 30)(VAR, VARIABLE)

A full-time unpaid Professional Practicum of 35-40 hours per week for 13 weeks, or the equivalent time. Students must arrange placements through the Practicum Advisor. Note: Students will not be allowed to register in any other course concurrently with KIN 493 unless approved by the Practicum Advisor. Prerequisite: KIN 493 is restricted to students who have completed a minimum of *90 toward the BScKin or BKin degree program. Note: Credit will be granted for only one of KIN 493 or PEDS 493.

KRLS 440B - Play Around the World Program Preparation

1.5 units (fi 6)(SPR/SUM, VARIABLE)

The Play Around the World project provides a 3-month international or Canadian based, cross-cultural field placement working with children and youth of all abilities in the area of play, recreation and sport. Students apply and are selected in Fall Term, and then have a significant time commitment during the Winter Term to prepare for their Intersession field placement. Travel takes place May through August. This course represents the theoretical aspect of the experience, and involves written and creative work in the area of programming in cross-cultural settings. Prerequisite: KRLS 421 is strongly recommended. Corequisite: KRLS 441. Credit will be granted for only one of KRLS 440 or PERLS 440.

KRLS 441B - Play Around the World - Field Placement

KIN 325 - The Study of Games for Children and Youth

3 units (fi 6)(EITHER, 1-2L-0)

An in-depth look at the cognitive, affective and psychomotor development of children and youth as it applies to providing age and developmentally appropriate experiences in games. The focus is on the design, delivery and assessment of quality games for children and youth aged 4 to 15. This course is relevant to those going on to work with children and youth in educational, recreation, and coaching environments. Coursework in childhood development is strongly recommended (eg. KIN 293 or KIN 207). Prerequisite: Successful completion of a minimum of 30 units. Note: Credit will be granted for only one of PAC 325 or KIN 325.
